# Add a payment stub to your invoice

A payment stub is a slip at the bottom of the PDF. Your customer cuts it off and sends it back with their cheque, so you know who paid and how much.

### Add a stub

**Website:**

1. Open the invoice editor.
2. Switch on **Payment stub**.
3. Save the invoice.

**App:**

1. In the invoice builder, switch on **Payment stub** ("Printable remittance slip on the PDF").
2. Tap **Save & continue**.

The stub prints at the bottom of the PDF. It shows the **Client**, the **Invoice** number, **Paid to date**, the **Amount due** with its currency, and your details under **Bill from:**. There's no due date and no blank amount field on the stub.

### Use it on every invoice

The stub is set per invoice. There's no company-wide setting. To reuse it:

- **Duplicate** an invoice that has it (see *Edit an invoice, change its dates or duplicate it*), or
- save an invoice with the stub as a template.

A recurring invoice with the stub switched on adds it to every invoice it creates.

### Good to know

- The stub is on the PDF only. Download or print the invoice to see it.
- Estimates don't have a payment stub.
- The free invoice generator also offers a stub (see *The free invoice generator*).

### FAQ

**I switched on the stub but don't see it.** Open the PDF (**Download**, or **Preview PDF** in the app). The stub is part of the PDF.

**My customer pays by card. Do I need a stub?** No. The stub is for payments sent by post.
