# Create an invoice

Pick a customer, add what you're charging for, and save. Nothing is emailed until you send it.

### Create an invoice

**Web:**

1. Sidebar → **Invoicing** → **Invoices** → **Add new**, then pick the customer.
2. Check **Number**, **Issued** and **Due**. They're filled in for you.
3. Type a **Job description**. It's required.
4. Click **Add product or service** for each line. Add the price, quantity and any discount or tax.
5. Optional: switch on **Payment terms** or **Client notes**, tick your **Accepted payments**, add attachments, a late fee or reminders.
6. Click **Save invoice**, or **Preview and send** to send it straight away.

**App:**

1. Tap **Create (+)** → **New invoice** and choose the customer.
2. Fill in the job description and add your items.
3. Tap **Save & continue**. The invoice is saved as a draft.
4. Tap **Send invoice** on the invoice when you're ready.

### Good to know

- The due date starts at today plus your **Default due date after** days (7 unless you change it in **Settings** → **Invoice**).
- Taxes are added on top of the price.
- The subtotal must be more than 0.
- Invoice numbers are whole numbers, and each can be used once. See *Invoice numbering*.
- Each invoice keeps its own currency. Amounts are never converted.
- Saving or editing an invoice never emails your customer.

### FAQ

**I clicked "Download invoice", but nothing downloaded.** That button saves the invoice. Open the saved invoice and click **Download (PDF)**.

**My customer can't pay online.** Edit the invoice and tick a payment option under **Accepted payments**, then save.

**Can I create a credit note or a negative invoice?** Not at the moment. The subtotal must be more than 0. To cancel an invoice and keep its record, void it.

**I can't create an invoice for this customer.** If you see "This customer is archived…", restore the customer first.
