# Partial payments and deposits

Your customer can pay an invoice in parts. Each time you record a payment, InvoiceQuick works out what's left.

### Record part of an invoice

1. Open the invoice and click **Add payment** (app: tap **Add payment**).
2. Enter the amount received, or click **Half**.
3. Save.

The invoice shows **Partial paid** (app: **Partial**). Your customer sees **Paid to date** and the new **Amount due** on the invoice page.

When the payments add up to the total, the invoice becomes **Paid**.

There's no limit on the number of payments. You can't record more than the amount still due.

### Paying online in parts

- **Card:** your customer always pays the full amount still due.
- **PayPal:** PayPal asks for the invoice total. Ask your customer to send only what's due.
- **Bank transfer and payment link:** your customer pays any amount. Record what arrives.

### Show a deposit

There's no separate deposit field. Two ways to handle it:

- **Deposit first:** create one invoice for the deposit and one for the rest.
- **One invoice:** when the deposit arrives, record it as a payment. Send the invoice again so your customer sees what's left.

You can also mention the deposit in the **Client notes**.

### Good to know

- **Half** means half of the amount still due, not of the total.
- If you delete a payment, the status updates (see *Edit or delete a payment, and refunds*).
- Partial invoices still count as owed on your dashboard and can get reminders.

### FAQ

**I can't mark an invoice as paid.** Click **Add payment**, then **Full**. Draft, void and scheduled invoices can't take a payment in the app. Send the invoice first.

**Can I take a deposit by card?** Create a separate invoice for the deposit amount.
