# Tax presets

Save the taxes you charge, such as "VAT 20%" or "Sales tax 8.25%", so you can add them to invoice lines in one click.

### Create a tax preset

1. **Website:** **Accounting** → **Tax presets**. **App:** **Menu** → **All modules** → **Reports & accounting** → **Tax presets**, or **Create** → **Tax preset**.
2. Click **New tax preset**.
3. Enter a **Name** and the **Rate %**.
4. Save.

The rate must be under 100%. You can also create a preset while adding a line to an invoice, with **Create tax preset**.

### Use it on an invoice

On a line, choose **Apply tax** and pick one or more presets. Taxes are always added on top of the price. There are no tax-inclusive prices or compound taxes (see *Line items, units, taxes and discounts*).

### Edit, archive or delete

- **Website:** use the actions on the preset's row. To remove one, **Archive** it, then **Restore** or **Delete** it from the archived view.
- **App:** hold a preset for **Edit**, **Archive**, **Restore** or **Delete**, or **Select multiple tax presets**.

### Find a preset

Filter by rate range or archived on the website. In the app, search or use the quick filters **Up to 5%**, **5–20%** and **Over 20%**.

### Good to know

- Each preset name can only be used once.
- Changing a preset's rate doesn't change invoices you already made. They keep the old rate.
- Taxes you import with items are created as new presets at 0%. Set their rate afterwards (see *Import customers, products, expenses, vendors or deals*).
- The **Taxable sales** report shows the tax charged (see *Taxable sales report*).

### FAQ

**Can I set a default tax for every invoice?** Not at the moment. Pick the tax on each line, or save it on your products and services.

**My rate shows 0%.** It was probably created by an import. Edit the preset and set the rate.
