Set a default template for new invoices

Make one saved invoice your starting point, so new invoices open with your usual lines, notes and payment options filled in.

Set the default

Web:

Go to Invoicing → Saved invoices.
Open the template's row menu and click Set as default. You'll see "Invoice template successfully set as default."

Or tick Make this my default template when opening a new invoice. when you save an invoice as a template.

App: Menu → All modules → Saved invoices. The Default chip shows which one is the default.

What it fills in

On the website, the default pre-fills:

new invoices
new recurring invoices started by picking a customer

It copies the template's currency, language, job description, lines, discount, notes and terms, payment stub, accepted payment options, link and attachments. You still pick the customer, and the invoice gets a new number, today's date and your default due date.

In the app, the default only pre-fills a blank recurring invoice. New invoices in the app start blank. To use a template there, open Saved invoices and tap it.

Use it to pre-set payment options

If you only accept some payment methods, set them on an invoice, save it as a template, and make it your default. New invoices on the website start with just those options. In the app, new invoices start blank, so open the template from Saved invoices to use its options.

Good to know

You can change anything on the pre-filled invoice before saving.
There's one default for invoices and recurring invoices. There's no separate default for recurring invoices.
If you share your account with a team, check with them before changing the default. One default applies to the whole company. To be sure which one is used, open Saved invoices and choose Set as default on it.

FAQ

My new invoice didn't use my default. Are you in the app? App invoices start blank. Open the template from Saved invoices instead.

Can I stop using a default? Set another template as the default, or delete the template you no longer want.
